NAIROBI air max norge tilbud , June 30 (Xinhua) -- Kenya's economy expanded by 4.7percent in the first quarter of 2017 as compared to 5.3 percent fora similar period last year, the country's statistical bureau saidon Friday.
Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS) Director GeneralZachary Mwangi attributed the slowdown in growth to a contractionin the activities of the agricultural sector as well as adeceleration in growth of financial intermediation and electricitysupply.
"The 2017 first quarter's growth was negatively impacted bydrought that emanated from failure of the 2016 short rains as wellas a delay in the onset of the 2017 long rains," Mwangi said in astatement released in Nairobi.
The unfavorable weather was particularly detrimental toproduction of the main food crops thereby aggravating performanceof the sector.
The agriculture sector recorded the first contraction in grossvalue added since 2009 which was attributable to unfavorableweather conditions during the last quarter of 2016 and the firstquarter of 2017.
Mwangi said that electricity supply was also adversely impactedon by the shortage of rains resulting to slowed growth during thequarter under review.
The statistical body noted that the finance and insurancesector's growth slowed primarily due a slow down in commerciallending to the private sector.
However, a number of key sectors recorded improved growths inthe first three months of 2017, with accommodation and foodservices being the highest at 15.8 percent from 10.4 percent duringthe first quarter of 2016.

JUBA, May 31 (Xinhua) -- South Sudan seeks to increase commercial fish production by investing in modern fishing technologies, processing and value addition in bid to increase the revenue base of the oil-dependent nation, a senior government official said Wednesday.
James Janga Duku, Minister of Livestock Herre Nike Air Max 90 Ultra SE Wolf Grå Svart Nettet Norge , Fisheries and Animal Resources, said his ministry has partnered with the UN Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) to develop to build a national fisheries policy, improve fishing technology through provision of fishing gear, value addition, packaging techniques and increasing international marketing of fish products.
